Coordinated response to trafficking in humans in Uganda

Karamoja Region, districts of Napak and Moroto

The general objective is to save children and other vulnerable groups from exploitation and trafficking situations, facilitate their return to a safe environment and mitigate factors that could lead to exploitation and potentially traffic situations.

Specific objectives

- Prevent human trafficking

- Protect traffic victims of being human

- Follow the traffickers of humans



Activity Description

1. Transit Center (clean, safe, access to water, separate males and females, children under the age of 5 can sleep together with a female social worker).

2. Health services (general check-ups, disease and medical follow-ups, emergency services (incidents, ...).

3. Food (in the transit center 3 meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner, carefully balanced diet and hygiene in preparation). Also be aware of cases of children who need a particular diet (in this case a medical advice / recommendation is required).

4. Education: Informal in the formal transit center: providing school supplies and uniforms

5. Counseling and psychological assistance: from individual counseling to group counseling including psychological help in severe cases (traumatic events).

6. Legal Services: Report cases to a professional.

7. Family Tracing and Family Visits with the Child: Family Identification, Life Cycle Assessment, where the Child Will Be Back, Environmental Safety.

8. Family and Community Counseling: Livelihood, Child-Care, Family Planning, HIV, ...

9. Long-term housing: Provide building materials in a secure place with access to services (following a shared decision, without any other possible alternatives).

10. Resettlement assistance: Only if it is not possible to arrange return to the village of origin, resettlement is used. In this case it is necessary that the decision be voluntary (of the child and of the family). The new place must be safe and the necessary materials (resettlement kit) must also be provided.

11. reintegration assistance: to be conducted after family tracing, it must be a voluntary choice of the child, provide material assistance (resettlement kit type) and that everything is well planned with the involvement of CFPU, PO and community.

Welcome and balanced diet for 71 children

Organized public dialogues with the involvement of local, religious and cultural authorities to raise awareness among communities about the risks children are facing in the streets; On living conditions in the Kampala slums and the laws on the protection of children's rights

Two debates in Kangole and Nadunget high schools have been organized regarding street life and human trafficking

Monitoring income generating activities and children at school. For each beneficiary, a consultation form was compiled to collect information on how the reintegration process (economic, social, school, etc) proceeds.

Children (under 18 years old) of Karimojong street victims of trafficking (recruitment, transportation, transfer, concealment of vulnerable persons by deception, use of force or other form of coercion, kidnapping, fraud or abuse of power, receiving payments or benefits Through exploitation). Currently 53 children.

Indirect Beneficiaries 2014

Families of street children Karimojong victims of traffic and exploitation. At present, 183 family members.

1. Welcome and balanced diet provided for 49 children.

2. Health care for 75 children.

3. School support for 45 children.

4. Support for 53 households.
