Results at the end of the project

Theatrical group
With new costumes and equipment, and after a period of 6 months of intensive training, the theater group continues to raise awareness of the community in the Kira district about the main theme of HIV and health prevention.

Physiotherapy and counseling
After the formation of a local physiotherapist, physiotherapy sessions were held during home visits. They provided the aids needed for the different patient needs. Among the various patients, it was necessary to intervene in a surgical manner after consulting with hospitals in the area. Two operations were carried out at Katalemwa Hospital, one at Namirembe Hospital; Treated patients with bad feet, cases of Annie and a patient with mental disorders were visited at the Butabika Hospital.

Microcredit
Using the loan scheme, with the close collaboration of C & S staff and an Uganda Finance Union technician, the beneficiaries were formed. In addition, two-month training courses were held in crafts. 90 families benefited from the capital needed to start activities: from crafts to pigs / chickens, from brick production to small shops. This has led to an extraordinary change in the living standards of direct disabled beneficiaries. Indirectly, the local population benefited from the increase in the number of products in circulation. For the local partner, microcredit has become synonymous with sustainability of the project. Interest income was partially used to cover office costs.

Background:
Year 2006

Results:
The structure was completed: the interior and exterior paintwork was purchased. The furniture needed: 18 chairs, 15 benches, 3 desks, 1 file collector and drapes for curtains.
The theatrical group initially formed by a small number of people now has a constant presence of at least 15 elements gathering at intervals of three weeks at the venue of the association.
The shows were held each month on a traveling route in the various villages of Kira town council.
Microcredit Training: Training in microcredit in April of 5 days for the administrator, the director, the secretary and two of the animators. Next training for people with disabilities residing in all six areas that will receive the loan starting from the farthest. Training in the Kimwanjy area lasted 4 days and had an average attendance of 70 participants a day; For residents in the Kira area for two-day mobilization, training followed for another two days with an average attendance of 35 participants. Admitted to the course all disabled people and parents of disabled children.
Physical therapy assistants training: the local physiotherapist was formed; There has been the possibility to gather a large number of people with disabilities who have been consulted.
In particular, 8 children were followed, with good results.

Crafts:
Training course for 20 disabled people to produce necklaces and bracelets with paper. Guided tours of the project of groups involved in the purchase of crafts produced by the local association.

The project officially started on 3 June 2005

Results:
Survey on the territory in April-May in two districts of Kira Town Council for the general mapping of disabled people.

Theatrical group:
• performances on the last Sunday of the month; Performances every two times a week;
• Materials have been purchased to promote the representations (musical instruments, clothes, ...) and made flyers and billboards to promote representations; Monitoring activities carried out by auditing public attendance at official performance in the villages. Participation of the Drama Group at the national gathering for awareness raising on disability issues.

Physiotherapy:
• Physiotherapy and rehabilitation course, with theoretical and practical lessons, to which the project mobilizer and physiotherapy participant participated;
• In November, UDWA took over a new mobilizer that, along with the initial one, continued to collect data on the territory (10 new disabled registered);
• The facility to accommodate the activities of the disabled is almost complete, the only missing element will be a drainage channel to facilitate the drainage of rainwater.

Crafts:
• During the first session 8 people were formed while 10 new beneficiaries participated in the second course. Lessons were held every Wednesday and Friday in the multifunctional hall of the new facility. In addition to the courses that took place in the new office, the chairman and three other members of UDWA attended Kira Town Council from November 29 to December 1, a craftsmanship course for fabric dyeing and golfing. Some items sold by the association are currently purchased by third parties and resold;
• The C & S Administrator has formally, for one week, the local partner's administrative manager, followed him constantly, and every two months has audited to assess the situation and make any changes to the administrative management of the Financial resources.
• a training course was also organized for the secretary of the association.
