Encourage access for minors to child health and child protection services and systems

Karamoja Region, districts of Nakapiripirit, Napak, Moroto.

Aims

General objective:

Promote children's access to efficient hygiene, health and safety services and systems in order to ensure their good living conditions.

Specific objectives

- Increase access to birth registration services and respond to cases of child abuse and exploitation.

- Increase demand for services and good practices related to children's rights.



Description of activities related to the socio-educational sector

1. Training courses in child protection.

2. Co-ordination meetings between partners.

3. Public discussions on violence against children.

4. Fund for the response to cases of abuse.

5. Psycho-social activities:

- football and netball tournaments for elementary schools;

- marathon;

- educational videos;

- musical performance, traditional dances, theater;

- seminars on violence;

- educational program for teenagers.

6. Raising awareness in the Kraal (small agglomerations developed around cattle fences).

7. Transit center for returnees (street children restored in the territories of origin), registration, family reunification.

8. Reintegration and monitoring visits, direct food support, clothes, school supplies.

9. Campaign to raise awareness about the risks of migration in urban centers.



Results obtained 2014

382 (191 M and 191 F) assisted vulnerable children (May 2014); Moroto: 102 M and 97 F; Nakapiripirit: 38 M and 40 F; Pitch: 51 M and 54 F; 15 street children in Moroto city included in the rehabilitation program

2,368 children and youth involved in psycho-social activities (January - May 2014)

- protection and provision of services to 550 migrants and street children and 150 children affected by natural disasters;

-protection and orientation to 550 vulnerable girls or boys at risk of exploitation;

- orientation and awareness raising for 4,000 young people and children and 8,000 adults.

• Assisted Children (OVC - Orphans and other vulnerable children): 3969 (2107 M and 1862 F)

• Coordination meetings: 563 participants (292 M and 271F)

• Raising awareness in 18 Kraal: 3019 participants (2023M and 996F)

• Accepted Migrants: 67 (49 children and 18 adults)

• Following the cases of 1083 migrants (438M and 645F)

• Campaigns for awareness raising for 882 migrants (570M and 312F)
